How long have you been in business?
Capital Sun Group, Ltd was incorporated in Maryland in 1997.
What is your primary product or service?
Integrity, 30 years of energy technology experience, impeccable design and competent installation of solar thermal, solar electric on- and off-grid systems, geothermal heat pumps, swimming pool heating systems, integration of solar with conventional and advanced HVAC equipment. We also consult to home owners and architects on solar building design. We offer insulating indoor window shades, radiant barriers to cut AC bills and have repaired or refurbished a number of 20 to 30 year old systems.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Carlo La Porta began working as a solar energy analyst in the 1970s, was Director of Research at the National Solar Energy Industries Association in the early 1980s, He gradually accumulated substantial technical expertise over the years and designs and builds solar thermal and solar electric systems. He worked for 12 years as a support contractor at the Dept. of Energy. Albert Nunez began installing solar systems in the early 1980s and has an extensive technical background in building energy conservation technologies and integration of solar technologies with them. He worked with the team in Colorado in the 1970s that landed the Solar Energy Research Institute in Golden.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are not like most new solar companies that specialize in photovoltaics. We don't use a set of packaged systems to sell customers, but take the time to analyze their energy use, their building and determine the most practical and cost effective solar options. We have worked for Lockheed Martin and Honeywell, and have systems at the FDA, HHS, Pentagon, US Postal Service, Defense Supply Center and on 5 DC schools. Most of the work we do involves custom designs.
