Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
We grew from Petit Centre Francophone, which was founded in 1987. Our camp has been held for twelve years; ten at 5500 Massachusetts Avenue. We just moved to Potomac. We have developed language programs, fun, arts, theatre and games for children to learn a second language for over 27 years.
What is your primary product or service?
We have a summer camp - a theatre camp in language immersion of ESL (English), Spanish, French or Chinese. We consult to schools and teachers to develop or train teachers to teach foreign language to all ages and levels using arts, games, and an efficient approach that can lead children to speaking the language and to understand it.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I have an MEd. My family is bilingual. In 1987, I started to write plays in Spanish, French and English and to perform them in the Washington area. At the same time, I started to use the arts to teach language, and to train my teachers to do the same. In the early 2000's I became aware that it is important to offer Spanish and Chinese lessons as well.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We have 27 years of experience of teaching foreign language and consulting to local schools for their curriculum. We blend the arts and language. The children focus on theatre and games; our teachers focus on the language content. The parents enjoy seeing their children's skills grow in both the theatre arts and their target languages. Our consulting approach is to bring a sound pedagogy and advanced techniques designed to help teachers to share their language with their students and to learn about the school so that what we do suits their particular curriculum and needs.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have one location, and eventually, yes, we will go to other cities.

What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
¨D Antoine de Saint-Exup¨¦ry (see translation below the quote)
¡°Quand tu veux construire un bateau, ne commence pas par rassembler du bois, couper des planches et distribuer du travail, mais reveille au sein des hommes le desir de la mer grande et large.
If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people together to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.¡±
