CREATE Art Center is a private non-profit 501(c)(3) organization offering arts classes, arts camps, and arts parties to children aged 2 to 16, and arts classes and art therapy programs for adults of all ages. Our mission is to promote creativity, self-expression, and learning in the arts. Art engenders growth and has healing qualities, such as relaxation and the building of confidence and self-esteem. An important part of our mission is to reach out to underserved populations in the community.

How long have you been in business?
CREATE Arts Center has offered arts classes camps and parties since 1987, in Downtown Silver Spring since 2003
What is your primary product or service?
We are a non profit visual arts organization serving children teens and adults. We work at other schools and with other businesses, and collaborate with other organizations.
We include people of all ethnic, religious and economic backgrounds. We offer a sliding scale and scholarships to those that need them.
We lead art therapy programs for individuals and groups at our site and at other sites.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I am Tamar Hendel, the founder and Executive Director of CREATE. My training is in education, art therapy and art.
My work at CREATE combines all the passions of teaching the arts and reaching out to a diverse and varied population.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
CREATE is unique in that we serve both the general population and those in need for therapeutic services.
Our staff consists of artists/teachers and arts therapists.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
Our only location is 816 Thayer Avenue, in downtown Silver Spring.
HOWEVER, we teach qat other schools, businesses and other facilities

Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
No one owns the company. Being non profit it is in the public domain.
Operations are run daily by the Executive Director, the Managing Director and the Office Manager. The class sessions and art therapy programs held during during the day, afternoons after school and on weekends are led by additional staff.
